Universities

JCFire have a number of mobile Fire Investigation and Forensic units and currently work with various universities throughout the country providing a unique opportunity for a practical element to their Forensic Courses at both under graduate and postgraduate levels.

These units are fully mobile and can be constructed to a room of your choice for example front room, bedsit, or hallway including staircase.

The room is 3m x 2.5m and is constructed with fire proof floor, plasterboard walls and ceiling (painted), skirting boards and carpets (with underlay).

The unit arrives fully furnished to your specification including such items as clothing, ornaments, evidence of alcohol and smoking materials. Appropriate amounts of accelerants can also be used for demonstration or sampling purposes post fire.

The live burn is carried out on a suitable position on site (usually a corner of a car park identified in consultation with Estates and the Health and Safety Department). The Fire is fully risk assessed with no heat transfer or water run off and no debris left on site.

Post Fire the students are instructed on burn patterns, arrow patterns, pool patterns, smoke staining and fire investigation techniques. There is also the opportunity for forensic testing, forensic photography or full excavation of the scene.  Research students or students completing project work can also have the option to add items to the scene pre fire for investigative purposes.
